In 1998, the late lamented Professor Carmen M. Radulet organized, Italian Institute of Culture in Lisbon, an international congress on Luso-Italian relations and the Italian presence in Portugal in the XV-XVIII. The contributions, investigating specific aspects of economic activities of the Italian community in Lisbon, introduced new aspects of trade relations and cultural Luso-Italian. Since then, new studies have addressed this issue by developing knowledge about the very life of the community iitaliana in Portugal. This allowed to increase the structural framework of the Portuguese reality, contributing to a broader vision of national history.
In order to achieve a balance of the latest research and, simultaneously, open the way for new approaches and interpretations, these meetings wishing to know the nature of the Italian community of Lisbon and economic networks in a way that would promote cultural contacts.
Tracing the history of the Italian community in Portugal in recent centuries, will be highlighted the changes and continuities, following the stories of families, analyzing the evolution of economic, social and cultural life, and rebuilding the network of relationships that developed up to the overseas territories .
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy is interesting to note that the existence of an Italian nation in Portugal, ruled by conflict in their homeland, foreshadows what will become many years later united Italy.

In 1998 the late Professor Carmen M. Radulet held at the Italian Institute of Culture in Lisbon, an international symposium on relations lusoitalianas and the Italian presence in Portugal in the XV-XVIII centuries. Contributions, to deepen specific aspects of economic activity the Italian community in London, have provided new aspects of trade and cultural relations Luso-Italian.
Since then, new studies have addressed this issue in considerably advancing knowledge of the conduct of this community in Portugal, expanding the structural framework of the Portuguese reality and contributing to a more complete picture of national history. In order to take stock of recent research, while simultaneously opening new avenues for interpretation and approach, these meetings will perceive the nature of the Italian community in London and how economic networks woven corporatised the cultural contacts.
In tracing the evolution of the Italian course in Portugal in these centuries, changes will be detected by monitoring and persistence of family stories and analysis of the route the economic, social and cultural performance of its network with multiple links that stretched up to the overseas territories .
In order to celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Unity of Italy in 2011, it is interesting to note that the existence of an Italian nation in Portugal, free of conflicts and confrontations patriotic foreshadowed what would be many years after the united Italy.
