On March 17, 1861, Victor Emmanuel II, king of Piedmont and Sardinia, in Turin met with representatives of other states in the Italian peninsula and ended a long process nationalist struggles and wars for independence and unification of Italy. After 150 years, the same city of Turin, who became the first capital of the country, hosts a series of events, exhibitions and demonstrations to celebrate the 150th anniversary of unification.

Until the mid-nineteenth century, Italy was fragmented into a series of independent states and principalities, some under control of Austria. Since 1848, nationalist movements began to emerge proclaiming the unification of the States and the wars of independence, which culminated in the founding of modern Italy in 1861.

In Piedmont, where it all began, where most of the major attractions of the celebration of 150 years of unification. There will be nine months of celebration, with cultural events dedicated to nationalist campaigns of the nineteenth century and the creation of Italian identity. Moreover, because of the ephemeris several historical buildings, squares and parks in several Italian cities are being restored.

In Turin, the events will be concentrated on two main points: the Officine Grandi RIPARAZIONE, created especially for the party, and Venaria Reale, Baroque complex that will host exhibitions focused on identity, creativity, art and Italian taste. Officine at three major exhibitions will be mounted between March 17 and November 20: "Making the Italians," about the Italian identity in these 150 years, "Future Station" about how the country will be in the coming years, highlighting the technological innovations and "The future in our hands," about Italian craftsmanship.
