The festival, in its sixth year, is promoted by the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Rome and the Directorate General for Landscape, Fine Arts, Architecture and Contemporary Art of the Ministry of Heritage and Activities cultural; from 'Department of Cultural Affairs of the Province of Rome and the Rome City Hall XIII.
The exhibition, opened on January 30, coinciding with the Day Memory, relies on the patronage of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities and the contribution of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Italy.
As with previous editions, the works are made especially for the Synagogue of Ostia Antica, one of the oldest archaeological evidence of Judaism in the Diaspora (the first century AD).
The idea starts from the initiative sponsored by the Synagogue Stommeln, near Cologne, survived the Nazis, where since 1990, each year an artist is invited to create an original work for the site.
Arts in memory participates in Remembrance Day, established by the European Parliaments the date of opening of the gates of Auschwitz, with the belief that a project on memory should not settle at a level merely symbolic and memorial, but to find a continuity in time, effort, every time different artists to experiment with a theme so dramatically present and a place so significant in terms of historical, artistic and symbolic.
Critical thinking of the review considers our culture, obsessed with the memory but also characterized by the destructive dynamics of oblivion.
